Coming back to the US after completing a shariah program at al-Azhar university, I had a vision to establish a school for girls in the US similar to Dar al-Zahra in Tarim Yemen. Al-Hamdulillah Nur al-Iman began in January 2015 with a small group of students in Union City. We started out teaching a few subjects and gradually developed into a full program after a year. We were blessed to receive the name Nur al-Iman by sayidi al-Habib Umar bin Hafiz, may Allah preserve him and benefit us by him. We pray that Allah makes this program truly a means of increasing people’s light of faith and to remove us from the darkness of ignorance to the light of knowledge.

Our History

Al Hamdulillah being fortunate to have traveled to multiple countries studying and teaching I had noticed one thing that was most impressive in countries such as Yemen, Malaysia, and Indonesia.

All of them had boarding schools for girls and boys to learn their deen. Many girls would go to these schools before heading off to college.

What does that do?

It gives them a sense of identity.
It makes them grounded in their religion.
Their priorities are set straight, religion comes first.
It gives them a religious foundation that they can build their secular studies over and not the opposite.

About the Program

Quran

Learning Tajweed, practicing recitation of the Qur'an al-Kareem. In this course we will gradually memorize Juz Amma, Juz Tabarak and the virtuous surahs. The students will also complete a group Khatm, reciting with the proper tajweed rules. They will take turns reading and listening. This allows them to recognize mistakes and how to correct them, so in sha Allah they are able to benefit others later.

Tafseer

Tafseer is an important subject. Many of us recite the Noble Quran in our prayer but do not understand what we are saying. Through this class we will learn Quran vocabulary and learn basic commentary of Juz Amma, Juz Tabarak and the virtuous surahs. This will help the student to understand the Words of Allah ﷻ and grow closer to Allah ﷻ.

Hadith

Through learning Hadith a student grows to know the Messenger of Allah ﷺ more and so increases in loving him and in following his footsteps. In sha Allah through our program the students will learn, memorize and act upon the Hadith in the books, content of character and the Forty Nawawi collection. After completing these two books, the students will be reading Riyad al-Saliheen for Imam Al-Nawawi which gives the students a comprehensive view of Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ.

Fiqh

Fiqh is an essential science needed by everyone for their daily life. We offer classes in both the Hanafi and the Maliki school. Students will be going through the traditional texts of each school. Starting from a basic text and gradually moving onto the more longer texts.

Aqidah

Aqidah is an essential science that everyone must study. We start with a basic text called "Aqidat al-Awwam" and gradually go through longer texts to increase our understanding of Allah ﷻ, His prophets and the matters of the unseen.

Seerah

A reading of seerah is done on a weekly basis, where the students are taught about the blessed live of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ and his Companions. This increases our awareness of who the Prophet ﷺ is and increases our love for him ﷺ.

Tasawuf

Tasawuf is The science for purifying the heart and beautifying it with the remembrance of Allah ﷻ. It is obligatory upon every Muslim to learn it. We cover texts by Imam al-Ghazali, Imam al-Haddad and Imam Muhammad Mawlud, may Allah have mercy on all of them. All of which are essential for our daily living.

Arabic

Students will be using kitab al-Asasi. They will learn grammar and morphology and increase their vocabulary. It is our hope that through this class and the other classes that our students will come out more fluent in the Arabic language.
